Smt.
Jharna Banerjee, eminent Classical Musician. Her father was Late Dr. Jamini
Ganguli, the famous musicologist and teacher, and a disciple of the great
classical maestro Girija Sankar Chakraborty. Smt. Jharna treaded the path of
the Musical World at a very early age. She was guided by her eminent father in
the realm of Indian Classical Music, specially “Khayal” and Thumri (Girija
Sankar Gharana). She has retained the purity of this “Gharana” with
meticulous zeal and ardor and is practicing in this field of music with unending
devotion throughout her life. She has been awarded “Sangeet Pravakar”
degree, and attained a high place among all India competitors.

Jharna is the only female artist who has retained many rare “bandishes” of
“Girija Sankar” gharana, which were collected by Girija Sankar from
various illustrious musicians all over India.
Smt.
Jharna has won many awards and competitions from her very childhood. She has
performed in many functions and is attached with many Musical Institutions and
Academies. She is a prominent teacher of Classical Music and is well known in
Calcutta Musical Circles. A true Artist that she is – and a true teacher that
she is – she gives out all she has to her pupils. Many of her serious pupils
here and outside have shown promise of attaining high standard of excellence.
