Genetic Engineering Research Centre (HGERC) is a house of Cytogenetics
and Molecular Diagnostics. It has started since 1994. This research
lab is doing genetic research on human gene, as well as for Infertility,
Asthma and the disease creating panic among people i.e. Tuberculosis
and further treatments on these three diseases.
HGERC is the first among Eastern Zone for its private research
laboratory putting few steps ahead on genetic diseases mainly
the Chromosomal Aberrations like Klinefelter syndrome, Down syndrome,
Turner syndrome, Edward syndrome and many more. Side by side many
other fields are coming forward in which HGERC is revealing its
interesting work with the most commonest disease now a days called
Thalassaemia diagnosis (Hb electrophorosis). As per the process
of diagnosis, it is time consuming although the lab is providing
it in a minimal cost. Throughout the year lab is conducting camps
in nooks and corners of West Bengal as well as getting fruitful
results also.
At present, the lab is working with Calcutta University, Burdwan
University, and Vidyasagar University. Immensely varying university-students
have been fulfilling their research projects in the field of Biotechnology,
Microbiology, Genetics and Veterinary Sciences (Under-Graduates,
Post-Graduates and Doctoral thesis). As per the further research,
HGERC is now engaging itself for a new research to prevent Cardio-Vascular
diseases. Last but not least to say HGERC is proving day-by-day
its appropriate name.
