ASGHAR HUSSAIN KHAN was born in Varanasi on 14th July 1942 in the house of traditional Shahnai
Gharana. S/O Legendary Shahnai Stalwart and the recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademy Award Late Ustad Ali Hussain Khan Sb. He got his initial taalim (education) of shahnai at a very tender age of 9 from his uncle Late Ustad
Mansab Ali Khan Sb. who himself was a maestro and a legend of shahnai.
Infact his forefathers were the traditional stalwarts of shahnai having served as the court artists of various Indian Princely, States and Kingdoms. He belongs to the Benaras Gharana.
Since his childhood khan sb. is very serious in his Riaz (practice) . In order to get the perfection on shahnai and various
Raag's and Raagini's of India Classicial Music which has been the tradition of his Benaras Gharana and to live upto the expectations of his father and forefather in terms of the voice, perfection on various difficult Asthaaees, Antaraas,
Rhythm, Sur, Taal and other aspects of Sangeet, Khan Sb. still practices rigorously for 4 to 5 hrs.
daily and has a great command on these.
In the later years he got his taalim (education) from late Ustad Jamal Sen of Bikaner Gharana, Late Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sb. late Ustad Abdul Aziz Khan of Gwalior Gharana. Having the taalim of so many stalwarts and' wizards of music it was a matter of great pride and honour for Khan Sb. He got his first achievement at the age of 30 by becoming the AIR artist of AIR (Calcutta) after that he never looked back and kept on playing the Shahnai and winning the hearts of the people by his soothing voice. He gave his solo performances at Sadarang Music Conference, Tansen Sangeet
Sammelan, Dover Lane Music Conference & Ustad Alauddin Khan Music Conference etc.
He also assisted his late father to infact all the places he visited. He was Akashvani and Doordarshan there at the time of the opening Kendra of Guwahati, Indian oil Refinery Foundation Ceremony at Dibrugarh, Opening of the
Doordarshan Kendra Jalandhar, Jammu & Kashmir and in Sangeet Natak Academy's Festival's of 85 &
93 along with his father. He even went to Bangladesh alongwith his father during the time of formation of Bangladesh.
He has taught the art to many of his pupils and sons. He even taught a German Lady Irnea Schiffer and an American Graham Taylor the difficult art of Indian Classical Instrument (Shahnai).
He is a regular visitor to. West Bengal Legislative Assembly's functions, State sponsored functions/Festivals and Ramkrishna Mission's Programmes.
