Having
been born in a musical family, Kajal grew up in a musical ambience. Since
her 5 yrs. of age and school education, Kajal was tutored in Sitar by Sri
N. Goswami and Sri R. Sen of AIR (Cal). Acclaimed as one of the few
foremost performers of her almamater, Kajal completed her Graduation and
Post-graduation programmes in Instrumental Music (Sitar) as topper in both and
received a special training from Prof. S. Mishra of Visva Bharati (Music
College). later, on the basis of 'National Scholarship' of the then Ministry of
Education, Kajal came under the tutelage of (late) Pandit DHRUBATARA
JOSHI, the then Professor and Dean of Visva Bharati (Music College), who was
himself the Dhrubatara (Pole Star) in the galaxy of Indian Classical Music. Kajal
believes in modernity firmed on traditional base and flowers the same in her
Sitar rendering as well. Her command on Aalaap, Vistar, Jod with excellent Meend
work, innovative Taankaari and Layakaari and astonishing jhaalaa are the
expressions of her mature imagination. Her melodious performance with commitment
towards the purity of raagas through the characteristic Baaj of IMDADKHANI
GHARANA reminds of her long tedious and scientific taalim. Kajal,
during 10 yrs of her stay in abroad (Muscat, Oman), had not only taught and
performed Sitar recitals but succeeded in popularizing Indian Classical Music
over there. On return, Kajal has been selected by the INDIAN COUNCIL
OF CULTURAL RELATIONS (ICCR) as their enlisted artiste. Kajal has
been consistently presenting her innovative performances through AIR (Cal) and
Television for last more than 20 yrs. She also presented her recital in many
prestigious conferences.
