Abhijit started learning TABLA at a very tender age from Sri Tushar Kanti Bose, later from Sri Manik Pal and finally came under the tutelage of Pandit Gyan Prakash Ghosh. As a child he won many Music competitions of national repute. Besides TABLA he had his training in Vocal Music and Violin.

 

Abhijit is now regular performer at all the major music conference held all over India and overseas. Besides accompanying all the major artistes of India, both in North Indian and South Indian tradition, he has the privilege of presenting himself as a solo performer in many music conferences in India and Abroad. He has toured extensively all over the World and also associated himself with Jazz world. Abhijit has conducted many seminars on Indian Classical Music at different Universities in USA, Japan, England and Spain.

 

Abhijit has many CDs to his credit from reputed companies accompanying almost all the major artists in Indian Classical Music today and many well-known Jazz musicians as well. He has also recorded Tabla solos, which are now available from Magna Sound (Mystical Moments of Rhythm), BHM CRESENDO (Duet with Pt. Bhawani Shankar, Pakhawaj) in India and Peshkar from Germany. Abhijit has recently done a percussion recording (Moonlight Whispers from “Tim Company” of Europe) with a very rare combination of Tumbak and Tabla along with world-renowned guitarist Larry Coryell, which is getting much applause amongst the percussionists and music lovers.

 

Abhijit has composed music for TV Serials, Tele films on environment, pollution and wild life produced by Doordarshan Delhi, and Short films of which THE TRAILS – a film on Calcutta got the National Award in 1999 and was invited in the documentary film festivals in Amsterdam and Munich.

 

Abhijit has the privilege representing Indian in the World Festival of Music held in Granada, SPAIN in 1998. In his academic life he is a graduate in English and postgraduate in Journalism.
