Aaji
Bhora Badore, an evening of Tagore's barsha songs presented by
Broti at Birla Sabhaghar, was drained of the magical charm of
Shantiniketan monsoons . . . The mega event - drawing the best
talenis in the city - had all the potential to capture the
subtle nuances in Tagore's vast range of compositions dwelling
on his favourite theme . . . Apala Basu made a commendable
effort as organiser, director and composer of the entire
programme. Her creative instincts and flair for putting
thoughts to words through painstaking research of the various
moods of barsha, as seen by Tagore, found ample expression.
Apala
Basu, a Rabindra Sangeet exponent has also been felicitated with
an award in the South in 1989 but has yet to receive any offer
from our own film industry. Though she is always performing at
some function or the other, a voice such as hers deserves much
better. - The Indian Express Apala
