Brilliant, beautiful, vibrant Kathak dancer KEYA CHANDA has learnt Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Kathakali and Manipuri from eminent Gurus, but finally choose the style of Kathak under the guidance of Sri Rajen Bose, Smt. Rani Karnaa, Pt. Bachan Lal Mishra and recently she is undergoing training through workshop from Pt. Birju Maharaj

 

A recipient of Government of India Scholarship – 1984, Junior Fellowship (twice) from the Department of Culture, New Delhi in 1991 and 1997, she has awarded many prizes, like first prize in West Bengal Youth  Festival 1978, a gold medal in All India Music Competition, Allahabad in 1983, prize in Dover Lane Talent Search Contest and many others.

 

She has performed almost all over India in big festivals like Guru Shishya Parampara – Bhopal, Kathak Mahotsav, Sarachhandrika festival, India International Trade Fair in New Delhi, Kathak Prasang in Bomaby, Akhil Bharatiya Sangeet Samaroha in Patna, Nrityotsav in Bhubneshwar, Konark Dance Festival, Vedvyas Dance Festival in Rourkela, Udayshankar Nrityotsav in Kolkata Allauddin Khan Sangeet Samaroha in Maihar M. P. and many other festivals and also in Bangalore, Lucknow, Pondicherry, Varanasi, Madhya Pradesh and many other places.

 

She has done lot of lecture demonstrations for foreign delegates in Taj Bengal, Grand Hotel – Kolkata organised by Indian Tourism, American Express Bank etc. She has been awarded the diplomas of Nritya Visharad, Probhakar and Praveen from Prayag Sangeet Samity, Allahabad. She is an approved "A" Grade artiste for solo performances from Doordarshan Kendra.

 

She is teaching at “Calcutta School of Music”, Ballygunge, Dance Academy; Arambag, Hooghly and “Makhla Shinjini”, Uttarpara, Hooghly. Her project “Evolution of Kathak” already staged with great appreciations from press and public. This project received financial support from the Dept. of Culture, H.R.D., New Delhi. A social welfare project on DRUG titled "Jiwanjantranate Drug" which is also received financial sanction from the Ministry of Tourism & Culture, Government of India. She has travelled in Europe for performances, workshops and classes. Her dance production based in contemporary subject on women titled - "Human Draupadi", which is financially supported by Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi, has been staged with great appreciation from both press & public.

 

Keya is good in singing, recitation and acting. She took part in the Bengali Film "Kanyadan" & one Bhojpuri Film "Mahachhatpuja" as a dancer & Choreographer. 

 

She has formed her own dance troupe titled "Keya Chanda's Dance Troupe". This year she has been awareded the "Best classical dancer-2003" given by a organisation "Prerana", Kolkata. Very recently she has travelled as a deligate to South Korea & Vietnam along with her musicians.

 

It was a tour to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations & cultural exchange programme between South Korea & India.

 

Keya chanda's Kathak solo performance was the first Kathak performance in Vietnam. The performance was heart throbbing & amazing.
